Upon moving abroad, I joined Young Friends of the Earth Europe, a European-wide coalition of youth organizations fighting for climate justice. As part of the deregulation working group, I worked on a campaign to raise awareness and take action against corporate-backed deregulation efforts in the EU.
After being an active member of both the Action & Events Team and Communications Team of Sciences Po Reims' branch of Amnesty International, I became the head of Action & Events. Amnesty is a leader in human rights organizing on campus. Our events included organizing a Decolonization Week, collecting hundreds of signatures calling for the freedom of political prisoners, and raising money for important human rights causes.
I worked as the Youth v. Oil intern at the climate justice non-profit SanDiego350 for a year and half my junior and senior year of high school, after volunteering for the organization for almost 2 years. I led the Youth v. Oil campaign which was dedicated to ending fossil fuel extraction and reliance in California through legislative action at all levels of government. My duties included facilitating meetings, organizing events (such as protests and press conferences) managed volunteers, speaking with media, communicating with elected officials,
I founded the climate action club, LJ Environmental Action, at my high school and was its president for 3 years. As one of the most active clubs on campus, we organized a strike, invited guest speakers, hosted a local film festival, successfully fought to save our AP Environmental Science class, organized yearly thrift shops, and went viral on social media, among many other achievements. One of our most significant actions was helping to pass a resolution at San Diego Unified School District (the second largest in California) to electrify school infrastructure and phase out fossil fuels district-wide.
